Food color markers - fun for pony parties
Party Menu Ideas
Party food, snacks and fun for your pony party

If you're excited about your pony party and you want to get cooking, then check out
these resources:

  • Food markers. Make your mark on food for your party with the vibrant array
offood markers. Draw horses on fondant, cookies, marshmallows, candy coating
and more. They're ideal for making cake pops.

  • Pink Ponies Cookbook: If you want to make Ponytail Pretzels and Little Pony Tail
Puffs, then you've got to try Barbara Beery's Pink Ponies Cookbook, pictured
    above.

  • Out of the Bento Box recipes: Serving hamburgers might be an obvious choice for
a cowboy party, but it may not be an option if your party is at a horse ranch, as
the smoke will bother horses eyes. But if your pony party is at home, try using
food writers on the hamburger bun, see picture in Yum-Yum Bento Box, where
the author makes a cute piggy face.

  • Have fun with food containers. For a pony party, use an upturned cowboy hat
(preferably plastic to keep food sanitary, or a straw cowboy hat for chips that's
    never been worn).

Menu tips for your pony party:

  • If you're considering a new recipe, give it a try a few weeks before the party to
see if your own kids appreciate the flavors. If not, you can modify the
ingredients or find a new idea.

  • Nuts should only be served to guests more than five years of age. So if your
party has toddlers, stay away from peanuts, recipes with chopped walnuts and
other nut mixes. Peanuts especially are a serious allergen for many kids.

  • Grapes are refreshing party food in the Summer months, but be wary that
grapes pose a choking hazard because of their size. It's better to place grapes
in reach of adults only at the party.

  • Keep food picks out of reach of youngsters under three. And steer clear of
confetti on the tables, which will get into the food.

Resources for your Pony Party

Party food for kids should be fun, no matter what the party theme. Set the tables with
healthy finger foods, including crunchy bread sticks, a variety of crackers in fun shapes,
cheese sticks on ice, quartered sandwiches in cupcake papers, toasted pita pockets
with hummus dip.
